Philadelphia, PA, October 15, 2026—Join Buried Creek Collective at the Discovery Center on Friday, November 20, for a night of readings, art exhibits, and conversations about envisioning better climate futures in Philadelphia.
Free and open to the public, “Daylight After Dark: Artists and Writers Showcase on Climate Change” showcases work from local environmental artists including sculptor Stacy Levy, painter Michael Williamson, multimedia artist Ingrid Raphaël, and sound specialists June Lopez and Ambrose Liu of Olney Culture Lab of CultureTrust Greater Philadelphia. There will be readings from members of Buried Creek Collective, a group of writers dedicated to fostering creative climate resilience through creative work and collaboration. Attendees can also meet and learn from exhibitors and vendors including Skype a Scientist, Master Watershed Stewards of Philadelphia County, and the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary.
“‘Daylight after Dark’ is an opportunity to learn about our changing environment through art, and meet other Philadelphians who are serving our city and imagining a better future for the region,” says Stephanie Feldman, author of the forthcoming story collection The Night Parade and Other Stories. “We can be resilient in the face of climate change by celebrating our community and creative visions.”
The showcase event is the finale of Buried Creek Collective’s Climate Education for Writers program, which launched this fall. Participants spent the 9-week program exploring Philadelphia’s changing environment—and what dedicated community members are doing about it—through hands-on experiences, meetings with experts, and introductions to challenges and opportunities for a habitable and healthy Philadelphia. “To daylight a creek is to open up and restore what was buried, so that the sun shines on it again,” explains Sara Davis, a nonfiction writer and Master Watershed Steward. “That’s what writers do: we look at the hidden elements that shape the world, and we bring them to light. We hope the conversations at this event will be a ray of light for writers, artists, and environmentalists across the city.”
Food and beverages will be available for purchase from La Llamita Vegana, featuring gluten-free and plant-based recipes inspired from traditional Peruvian dishes. Registration is recommended.
